What is a balance tank?
Balance tanks are a component of the high-temperature short-time pasteurization (HTST) process commonly used for dairy or beverage products. Their purpose is to ensure liquid product is kept at a constant level above a pump inlet. Product levels are typically controlled with sensors to ensure volumes are maintained when product transfers out of the system. Product generally enters through an inlet at the base of the tank to minimise splashing and aeration, supporting flow performance.
